The morning ride

The morning ride

Dishevelled individuals cluster morosely under the neon light.  There is some banter but mostly they just peer at one another through glazed eyes only just woken and still connected to brains in another world.  More individuals arrive as the appointed time approaches.  Late means more sleep but too late and the others have gone.  The ride starts gently, a line of flashing beings easing morning legs, and lungs, into the dark…

We return in a rush, shouting and chirping, sprinting for the last imaginary line, childhood excitement returned and forgotten friendships rebuilt.  Flushed cheeks brush aside early morning traffic as we, superior beings, laugh at the already work-weary occupants of cramped cages.  The next ride is loudly planned with eager anticipation and we call thanks to each other with real gratitude and love.
